Young Wrexham Lives

Young Wrexham has teamed up with students from Coleg Cambria in Wrexham to give an insight into the lives of young people in Wrexham.  Over the next few weeks we will be showcasing their articles that include ‘The life of a football reviewer, ‘Thoughts on Brexit’ for young people, ‘A trip to the moon’, ‘How to build a computer, ‘My favourite album’, ‘My favourite gig’, ‘Things I would change in Wrexham’, ‘Things I love about Wrexham.

In the project you can talk about most things (nothing rude, lude or crude) and it can be carried out by writing/video or animation.  If you would like to take part in the ‘Young Wrexham Lives’ project then please contact us.

I have been to a few gigs so far, however, the best gig I ever went to was Bring Me the Horizon’s gig in Manchester in November of 2016.

I went with my sister and her friend and we decided to go to the arena really early to make sure that we got to the front of the area. We arrived at around 10am and just waited. We ended up meeting some nice people and went and got blankets as it was November and freezing cold. They started letting people in at around 5pm and we rushed to try and get to the barricades.

We managed to get to the very front and just hoped that we wouldn’t be crushed by the thousands of other people in the crowd. I was only 14 at the time and most of the people in the crowd were burly men who were at least 30 so the chance of me getting crushed was pretty high. Luckily, I didn’t get crushed too badly.

Another thing that made this the best gig I’ve been to was the support act Don Broco, this is because it introduced me to them and since I’ve listened to their music loads. The band had so much energy and had the crowd going. They really set the scene for Bring Me the Horizon.

The effects on the stage when Bring Me the Horizon came on were incredible (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s8lVlryQLic) and as each band member came out the crowd got louder and louder.

The whole set was incredible and they played some of their older songs including a few of my favourites.

Throughout the concert, the lead singer Oli told everyone to jump and even at one point on one of the last songs encouraged the audience to crowdsurf. The security guards at the front all tried to get the people off as quickly as possible, however, at one point a guy kicked me in the head as he was getting pulling off the crowd. It hurt but that didn’t stop me from jumping along with the rest of the song. Here is a link to the concert where all the audience crowd surfed – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DgQFi6x8kd4.

The overall concert was insane, the music was incredibly loud especially seeing as I was at the front and the atmosphere of all of the people surrounding me jumping and headbanging to the songs made it so much better. Even though I got crushed it was incredible to experience it and compared to the other concerts I’ve been to it was so much more lively.

The other concerts I’ve been to I was either in the seating area and wasn’t as engaged with the concert like when I went to see P!nk or it was a more tame concert like when I went to see EDEN in 2017 and 2018 where the songs are a lot slower and it was a more relaxed experience.

This is why Bring Me the Horizon was the best gig I have ever been to.
