What is an Education Coordinator?
All local authorities in Wales must have a Looked After Children Coordinator. The role of the coordinator is to ensure that all Looked After Children have access to the best possible educational opportunities. Part of the coordinator’s role is to ensure regular attendance and academic progress and to also monitor and challenge exclusions, working with a range of agencies and each school’s designated teacher. The coordinator aims to provide as little disruption possible for children transitioning from school to school or placement to placement and to arrange any targeted provision or support ensuring a high quality Personal Education Plan (PEP) is in place tracking achievements and progress towards set targets.
