Assessment and Intervention Team

Assessment & Intervention Team

The Assessment and Intervention Team (AIT) carry out social work assessments of children who may be in need of care and support and children who may be in need of protection.

All referrals made to Children’s Social Care are received by the Single Point of Access team (SPOA). This team gathers information to decide if a social work assessment is required. When it has been decided that a social work assessment is required to assess the needs of a family, the case will be transferred from SPOA to the Assessment and Intervention Team (AIT) and allocated to a social worker who will complete an assessment with families, alongside agencies such as education and health, to support families who may be experiencing difficulties.

Once an assessment has been completed it may be appropriate for short term services to be provided by the AIT team to support the family to make any changes that are needed.

The AIT team members work hard to help families remain together. However, sometimes it is necessary to take legal action to make sure that children are kept safe. Throughout their work AIT are committed to promoting positive outcomes for the children and families with whom they work.
