Ecstasy (MDMA)

Commonly known as MDMA or MD, it is mainly used in tablet and powder form. It can leave you in a euphoric state, loved up, confident with no inhibitions; Ecstasy has again become one of the party drugs of choice for young people. But like with all drugs it can be a huge risk taking it.

Accounting for nearly 40 deaths per year during the last 15 years, you just don’t know what’s in the pill or powder and what you take can be okay for some people and might be catastrophic for others. Different people react in different ways.

When you have taken the drug (only do half a tablet at a time), it is very easy to get overheated and dehydrated. You will want to drink more, but avoid alcohol and always drink water or any non-alcoholic drink. However do not drink more than a pint every hour as this is also very risky as not drinking enough.

Coming down from the drug can be very unpleasant and leave you feeling very tired and depressed.   In the long term users can develop memory loss, depression and anxiety.

Ecstasy is a class a drug. If caught in possession you can face up to 7 years in prison. If you are caught supplying the drug you face up to a lifetime in prison with an unlimited fine.

Of course we would advise young people not anyone to take any substances, but if you do then please take this advice:

  • Use in a safe environment and with people you trust – never alone!
  • Be very careful about dosage
  • Allow time for substance to work before using any more
  • Do not mix with alcohol or any other drugs
  • Do not share any equipment, even if snorting
